The Disability Community was established in 1984 by disabled people in North Glasgow. Over the last 25 years it has grown and developed into one of the most respected voluntary organisations in the city. Members range in age from 5 to 75 and all disabilities are represented.

Board of Directors

The Disability Community is a member-led organisation and each year the members elect 12 of their number to form the Board of Directors. This means that all the decisions about services, staff and finance are being made by local people who have a personal experience of disability.

Case Study - Ronnie Rodden MBE

Ronnie is a founder member of the Disability Community and is currently chair of the Board. She has risen above her own disability and become an incredibly active voluntary community worker involved at Board level with CPP, GNRA and the local housing association.

Ronnie is typical of Disability Community members who come together to make a difference for the benefit of all disabled people. She is also a champion of change and it is the Disability Community's ability to change and adapt to current needs and policies that makes it such a dynamic force for good.
